Tofu Tikka - Easy Tofu Recipes

Usually i make curry, stir fry or fried rice with Tofu but this time wanted to make some easy appetizer or snack with Tofu. My first choice was any Chinese Starter but due to lack of few ingredients  i finally ended up with this Tofu Tikka. Tikka is a popular Indian appetizer mostly made using meat/chicken with the marinade of Yogurt & Indian spices combo. For a vegetarian option Paneer is commonly used in tikka preparations. Here, i used Extra Firm Tofu to make it healthy & Yummy. It can be grilled or baked in oven or u can cook in stove top also. I toasted them in an iron skillet, the tikka came out so perfect and tofu tasted so good with spices blend. This is one of the easy & simple appetizer for any get together/Potluck/any party. Sure a crowd pleaser , give it a try and u will like it.

Ingredients
  1. Firm or Extra Firm tofu      1 pack or 14 oz (cut into bite sized cubes)
  2. Red Onion     1 medium (diced)
  3. Capsicum     1 medium (diced)
  4. Tomato      1 no. (seed n center part removed & diced)
  5. Oil     to tost tikka.
For Marination
  1. Thick Curd / Yogurt*     1/2 cup
  2. Red chilli powder     1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin Powder      1/2 tsp
  4. Garam Masala Powder    1/4 tsp
  5. Kasoori Methi/Dried Methi leaves     1/2 tsp
  6. Salt     to taste
  7. Oil      1 tbsp
  8. Lemon Juice     1/2 tsp (optional, i skipped)

Method
  • Press Tofu for 30 minutes to remove moisture(like u do for Paneer to set, place tofu in a plate and place another flat bottomed plate n keep some heavy weight material on it, to remove the extra water content) and Cube the tofu. Chop/dice vegetables and keep ready.
  • Now take a wide bowl, add yogurt, chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, oil, salt & lemon juice and mix everything well.
  • To this add tofu and diced onion, tomato & capsicum amd mix eveything gently and not to broke tofu.
  • Once done cover the bowl with plastic/cling wrap and let it rest in room temperature for minimum 1 hour.
  • After marination, Heat a tawa smear oil and place tofu, onion & capsicum peices and cook drizzle oil around and cook in meidum hot for 1-2 minutes then flip other wait for a minute and similarly cook on all possible sides or simply you can put it on skewers and grill it or you can use your broiler.
  • Heat the oven to Broil. Put the tofu, onion, tomato & capsicum pieces on a rack over a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
  • Put them in the oven and broil until they start turning a little black on the edges and look dry. But tofu won’t actually be dry, the yogurt in the marinade will help to keep soft n prevent from drying.
  • That's it...Tofu Tikka ready, serve hot with lemon wedges & sliced onions.

Notes:
To get thick yogurt/curd, hang 3/4 cup curd in cheese cloth/cotton cloth to get all the liquid out. once don use the thick creamy yogurt in ur recipe.
Adjust spices to your taste.
