Homemade Breadcrumbs & Homemade Croutons both Stove Top & Baking Method recipe with pictorials. Homemade foods are always the best, fresh and healthy ones. Few things we cannot avoid buying from store and need to get it but we can make most of the stuffs at home from spice powders, Purees, Ghee, Butter, Bread. All we need to do is to spare some time and energy to make it fresh and also free from chemicals & preservatives.
Today I am sharing the method to make nice, crispy and fresh Breadcrumbs & Buttery Bakes Croutons. Breadcrumbs are used to make yummy snacks, appetizers, baked pasta, baked fries & fritters. Breadcrumbs gives a nice crispy coating and taste. And it is so simple and easy to make breadcrumbs at home, both plain and flavored bread crumbs. And this is one easy way to use the left over bread. You can store breadcrumbs in freezer for up to 6 to 8 months.
Croutons are nothing but a crispy sauteed or baked bread cubes that is added to flavor salads and as an accompaniment for soups. I love to add croutons to my Pulao & Biryanis.

Method
- Bread Slices 6 no.(I used Basic White Bread)
- Other Requirements
- Food Processor or Mixer
- Baking Tray
- Preheat oven to 300 F.
- Arrange the bread slices in Un greased baking tray and bake it preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- After 15 minutes turn the bread slices and bake for another 15 minutes or until bread slices turn crisp and hard.
- Once done remove the tray from oven and allow the baked bread slices to cool completely.
- After cooling, pulse it in food processor or mixer to a coarse mixture.
Notes:
- That's it...store it in an airtight glass or stainless steel container.
- It stays fresh in room temperature for 1 month and freezer for 6-8 months.
Make sure you bake it crisp without moisture.
Do not grind when the baked slices are hot, cool completely and then pulse it.
For stove top method:
Heat a griddle/dosa tawa, when it is hot place the bread slices and toast till turns crisp and golden brown on both sides without oil or butter.
If you add oil or butter to toast bread then it will reduce the shelf life.
So if you are making it in small batch are for one time you can add butter or olive oil for nice flavor.
For Italian Style Breadcrumbs
Before pulsing the bread in the processor or mixer, add Italian seasoning(1/2-1 tsp), Parmesan cheese(1/2 tbsp)
Garlic powder (1/4 tsp) dried Parsley (1/4 tsp) & little fresh ground pepper and pulse everything together.

Prep Time : 10 minutes | Cook Time : 15-20 minutes
Ingredients
For Flavored Bread croutons
- Bread Slices 6
- Butter, softened 3- 4 tbsp
- To the butter add Italian seasoning(1/2-1 tsp), Parmesan cheese(1/2 tbsp)
- Garlic powder (1/4 tsp) dried Parsley (1/4 tsp) mix well.
- You can make croutons both stove top and in oven. Stove Top Method:
- Take a mixing bowl, add soften or slightly melted butter and toss the bread cubes gently and spread in a cast iron pan or heavy bottomed pan.
For Baked Croutons
- Cook it in medium heat and saute until it turns golden brown and crisp.
- Preheat oven to 300 F.
- Smear butter to the bread sliced and cut into cubes.
- Arrange the bread cubes in a greased baking sheet and bake it for 20-22 minutes.
- Once done remove the tray from oven and allow to cool for a while.
- That's it...Crispy buttery baked croutons are ready.
