Idly sambar
Ingredients
- Toor dal 150 gm
- sambar onions 15 no.s or 1 and 1/2 big onion (cut in length wise)
- Tomato 1big riped
- garlic 3flakes
- green chilies 8-10no.s(cut slit open)
- coriander leaves 1/2 cup(chopped)
- Idly batter 2 tsp dissolved in 1/4 cup water.
- Oil 3tsp
- mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- fennel seeds 1/2 tsp
- hing powder 1/4 tsp
- curry leaves 1twig
- Pressur cook toor dal along with half onion ,half tomato ,4 green chillies ,3 garlic flakes and turmeric powder.
- When it is done mash dal lightly and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a vessel ,add all tempering ingredients one by one.
- Then add remaining onions,green chillies ,curry leaves,few coriander leaves, sprinkle some salt and saute nicely.
- now add chopped tomatoes ,when it gets soft add cooked toor dal and 1cup water, (or more to ur desired consistency) few chopped cilantro.
- Let it boil for some 5 minutes ,after that pour the idli batter gently to the boiling sambar.
- Stir it gently and allow to cook for some 2-3 minutes.
- Add remaining coriander leaves and stir well.
- Now the tasty idli sambar is ready to serve.
- Perfect combination for idly and dosa.
Notes:
After adding idly batter to the sambar,do not cook for long time or not more than 3minutes.
It will get more thick and sometimes get burnt at the bottom also.

DeleteHi, can we use moong dhal instead of toor dhal
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried with moongdal, But guess Moongdal sambar will also tastes good this way. If using moongdal only 1 tsp idli batter with couple of spoons of water and add it to the boiling sambar. If you try this sambar with moongdal please let me know how it turned out to you.
