Ingredient
- Curd/yoghurt 1 cup
- Onion 1/4 (chopped)
- Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- Dry red chilli 1 no.(broken)
- curry leaves few
- turmeric powder a pinch
- Salt as needed
- Oil 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- Rice 1 tsp
- Chana dal 1 tsp
- ginger 1" piece
- Green chilli 4-5 no.s
- Coconut 1/4 cup (shredded)
For Paruppu Urandai
- chana dal 3/4 cup
- green chillies 2no.
- onion 1-2tbsp finely chopped
- Coriander leaves 5 strings(finely chopped)
- cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
- Soak chana dal for 1 hr, then grind chana dal,cuminseeds and green chillies to a coarse paste with little water.
- Then transfer the grounded chana dal mixture to a bowl and add onions,coriander leaves and salt.
- Mix well and then grease the idli plates
- Now take a tablespoon of the dal mixture and make it round balls and keep it in the greased idly plates.
- Do for all the mixture and steam it for 10-12 minutes or till done.
- Then allow it to cool for some time.
- Heat oil in a kadai,add mustard seeds,when it popup add broken red chillies and curry leaves,fry it.
- Then add chopped onions and fry for 1-2 minutes.
- Now add the grounded coconut paste and stir well.
- Add 1/2 cup water,enough salt and pinch of turmeric powder and mix well.
- Allow this to boil and when it starts boiling add the cooked paruppu urandai/lentil balls to the gravy and stir gently and cook for 2-3 minutes.(cook covered in medium flame).
- Now add the buttermilk/beaten curd and mix gently.
- Simmer for another 2-3 minutes and lastly add some chopped coriander leaves n turn off the stove.
- Thats all ,Yummy paruppu urandai mor kuzhambu is ready .
- Serve hot with plain rice .
with the same recipe,instead of paruppu urandai u can also add vegetables like ash guord,okra,turnip,
