Potato & Blackeyed Peas Kurma / Potato Black eye Peas Coconut Curry


  Very Easy, flavorful and spicy kurma which goes well with everything, White rice, any mild pulav, Chapathi, puri and Idly/dosa also. The combo of potato n black eyed peas makes a perfect filling and yummy side dish with the addition of few fresh herbs like mint, cilantro. Aromatic and spicy kurma, try this u will love it :)

Ingredients
  1. Blackeyed peas      1/2 cup
  2. Potato/Aloo        2 no.(medium)
  3. Onion       1 medium(sliced or chopped)
  4. Tomato     1 no.(chopped)
  5. Ginger garlic paste      2 tsp
  6. Fennel seeds         1/4 tsp
  7. Cardamom         2 no.s
  8. Turmeric powder        1/4 tsp
  9. Chilli powder           1/2 tsp
  10. Coriander powder    1 tsp
  11. Curry leaves        few
  12. Salt    as needed
  13. Oil      2-3 tsp
To Grind
  1. Coconut     1/4 cup
  2. Fennel seeds   1 tsp
  3. Poppy seeds    1 tsp(soaked in warm water for 15min)
  4. Green chillies     3 or 4 no.s
  5. Mint leaves    5 no.s
  6. Coriander leaves    few strings
  7. Clove    3
  8. Cinnamon stick     1' stick

Method
  • Soak the BE peas in water for overnight,then pressure cook it for 1-2 whistle (not too soft).
  • Cut the potatoes in to bite size pieces (peel the skin or use as such).
  • Grind all the ingredients under"to grind" in a blender to a smooth paste and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a vessel,add mustard seeds,fennel seeds and cardamom allow to pop.
  • Then add curry leaves and chopped onions,saute till onion get transparent
  • Add ginger garlic paste and stir well till the raw smell leaves.
  • Then add tomatoes and saute well  and add poatoes and BE peas with turmeric powder and fry well.
  • Then add chilli powder,coriander powder and stir fry for 2 minutes.
  • Now add the grounded masala paste  and keep stirring for 3-4 minutes.
  • Then add 1 and 1/2 cup water or to your desired consistency  and add enough salt and mix well.
  • Cook for 10-15minutes or till the raw smell of the masala leaves.
  • At last add some chopped coriander leaves to the kurma and now the kurma is ready to serve.

Notes:
Adjust chilli n spices to ur taste. the above one will give u a spicy kurma.
To make  the kurma rich u can also add some cashew nuts along with the grinding ingredients.
Instead of black eye peas u can also use any desired legumes like chickpeas, peas, brown beans, etc.
