Tomato Curry with Pigeon Peas N Moongdal Dumplings

On Saturday morning when I checked my mail before leaving...got mail from Vardhini regarding Dish It Out -Spinach n Garlic event roundup...was eager to see the wonderful roundup n there was a very pleasant surprise for me...she have a cute gift for me as a token of appreciation for participating in her event...I didn't expected it ...I participated with full interest n passion n finally got reward for my effort...thats so nice...thank you so much vardhini I have no words...really very encouraging :)

Coming to today's recipe Tomato curry with pigeon peas n moongdal dumplings was exclusively designed :) for the event - Cook It healthy -Protein icious theme.Yesterday for dinner decided to make tomato curry (quick n simple) then suddenly remember about the event n tried adding pigeon peas n pan fried moongdal dumplings.As moongdal n pigeon peas are also well known for its protein content.really a good change and the curry was perfect with rotis.
Ingredients
For Tomato Curry

  1. Onion 1 medium (finely chopped) 
  2. Tomato 2 no.s(finely chopped) 
  3. Ginger 2" peice(finely chopped) 
  4. Green chillies 2 no.s(finely chopped) 
  5. Turmeric powder a pinch 
  6. Chilli powder 1 tsp 
  7. Coriander powder 1 tsp 
  8. Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp 
  9. Salt to taste 
  10. Oil 2-3 tsp 
  11. Cilantro few finely chopped 
For moongdal Dumplings
  1. Moongdal 1/2 cup+ little more 
  2. Green chilli 1 no. 
  3. Fennel seeds 1/2 tsp 
  4. Onion 2 tbsp finely chopped 
  5. Carrot 1/2 shredded 
  6. Cilantro few finely chopped 
  7. salt 1/2 tsp 
  8. Oil as needed to fry moongdal dumplings 
Method
Wash and Soak moongdal (yellow split) for 1-2 hours after that drain the water completely (don't throw the water reserve it to add in curry) grind it to a corase paste along with fennel seeds n green chilli.


Now transfer the paste to a bowl/plate add other ingredients "under for moongdal dumplings" and mix everything well.
Now using paniyaram pan or saucepan fry the dumplings on both sides till turn light crisp n brown color.
After frying drain in paper towel and allow it to cool.


Now heat oil in a wok,add mustard seeds,cumin seeds,fennel seeds and wait till sputter..then add green chilli n ginger fry them lightly.
Then add onions and saute till onion turn light brown.


Then add finely chopped tomatoes and saute nicely..once the tomatoes turn half soft (but not mushy) add pigeon peas,turmeric powder,chilli n coriander powders .stir well and cook covered for 2-3 minutes in medium heat.
After that add moongdal soaked water,enough salt and mix everything well n bring to boil.(add more to your desired consistency).
When it starts boiling add garam masala powder n cook for another minute and lastly add the fried moongdal dumplings and stir gently.
Simmer for few minutes and lastly add some finely chopped cilantro n turn off the stove.
Delicious n healthy tomato curry with pigeon peas and moongdal dumplings is ready to serve now.

    Humm I like this recipe, especially the precision specification " Mung Dal 1/2 cup + little more". Never tried mung dal dumpling with carrot , sounds great!
