Paruppu Thuvaiyal is one of the easiest and simple healthy recipe. whenever i was not feeling well or on some lazy days I make this paruppu thuvaiyal for lunch to go with plain rice or any variety rice instead of sambar/rasam/poriyal. Some times this paruppu thuvaiyal n curd alone gives a complete satisfactory lunch u know?? My grand mom use Ammi to grind the chutney with very little water ..that thuvaiyal tastes so good n divine to me. But here no ammi n aatukkal so used blender which requires some water to run the mixie....Grind little coarsely and enjoy the crunchy taste of roasted dal...Mmmm... Don't omit tamarind and peanut which gives nice taste to the thuvaiyal/thogaiyal. Now to the simple recipe...
Ingredients
- Tuvar dal 1 handful
- Chana dal 2 tbsp
- Peanut 1-2 tbsp
- Dry red chilli 5-6 no.s
- Coriander seeds 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves few
- Tamarind one pea sized
- Hing 1/4 tsp
- Coconut 3 tbsp. (shredded)
- Salt to taste
- Oil 1 tsp
- Heat oil in a pan, roast all the ingredients one by one till dal turns light golden brown.
- Roast all the ingredients separately , this gives nice flavor n perfect taste.
- Allow the roasted ingredients to cool and then grind it to a little coarse paste along with salt and less water.
- No need to temper this chutney, transfer the ground Paruppu thuvaiyal to a serving bowl and enjoy with hot steamed rice along with ghee/sesame oil.
Absolutely comfort thogayal with hot rice Sangee. Still my granny used to prepare this in Ammi. She believes that it addes more taste. :-)
