Vella Aval / Sweet Poha - A Tribute to A Wonderful Blogger

Two days back I heard this sad and shock news from Priya's Blog , that Jayasree of Kailas Kitchen was no more and passed away this October 12 because of pneumonia. I never knew Jayasree before but her space Kailas Kitchen was well known to me . One can find all sorts of recipes and  includes more authentic and regional recipes also. I shared this sad news with V and we both talked about, the loss to her family and friends. Really they miss Her a lot. No one can compensate this May God give strength to her Family and I pray God to let Her Soul rest in Peace.

I too want to join this tribute and to honor her Memory, I tried Vella Avil from her space. This is so easy to prepare and a quick naivedyam. Check out the link for original and detailed recipe...

Ingredients
  1. Thick Aval/ Poha    1 cup
  2. Jaggery    1/2 cup
  3. Water 1 cup
  4. Coconut    1-2 tbsp(shredded)
  5. Cardamom   2 no.s(powdered or crushed)
  6. Cashew nut    2 tbps(chopped)
  7. Ghee   1 tbsp
Method
  • Wash and soak poha for 5 minutes and then drain completely and keep aside.
  • Dissolve jiggery in half cup or less water, strain the impurities and keep aside.
  • Heat the filtered jaggery water, bring to boil well no need of thread consistency..
  • Then add the soaked and drained poha, mix well.
  • Once the moistures dries up, add shredded coconut ,cardamom powder and mix everything well.
  • Lastly add the ghee roasted cashew nut and mix well.( heat 1 tbsp. of ghee in a tempering pan and roast the cashew nuts till golden brown and add it to the poha).
  • That's it, Vella Aval is ready to offer God.
