Little bored with savory baking and so tried this simple coconut honey stuffed sweet buns. Iprepared both savory Cauliflower Stuffed Buns and this Coconut stuffed sweet buns on the same day, same time and the sweet buns dominated and the coconut, cardamom, honey smelled so good and my kids loved this buns a lot. Here i have used sweetened coconut flakes, tutti frutti for stuffing, you can also use freshly grated roasted coconut and also add some finely chopped nuts for nice crunch. Now to the recipe...
Ingredients
- For the Buns, Recipe click Here
- Sweetened Coconut flakes 1/2 cup
- Tutti Frutti 1/4 cup or less
- Honey 3-4 tbsp
- Cardamom powder 1/4 tsp
- Milk 1-2 tbsp for brushing
- Sesame seeds few for topping.
- granulated sugar say a tsp for topping.
- Honey wash for brushing
- Honey 1 tbsp
- Water 2-3 tbsp
Method
- For honey wash - in a small bowl, mix honey and water and keep aside.
- Take a bowl, add coconut, tutti frutti, honey and cardamom powder mix everything well and keep aside.
- Prepare dough for buns(checkout the link for the recipe) as per the recipe and set aside to rise for 1 hour.
- After that divide the dough in to six equal size portion and roll it gently and set aside for 20 minutes.
- By that time, the dough had risen a bit , take one rolled dough , make a dent in the center and keep 1-2 tsp of coconut filling and bring the edges together and seal it tightly.
- Do repeat the same for remaining dough and filling.
- Now take a greased or lined baking tray, arrange the stuffed bun dough on the tray and set aside for another 15-20 minutes to rise.
- Preheat oven to 375 degree Fahrenheit.
- Then brush the stuffed bun dough with milk and sprinkle some sesame seeds and granulated sugar on top and bake it for 14-20 minutes. (mine took 13 minutes) or until the top turns light golden brown.
- Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool for a while and when its still warm brush the stuffed sweet buns with honey wash and Enjoy!!!
Notes:
Instead of honey you can also use brown sugar.
Substitute cardamom with cinnamon powder.
Honey wash gives you a nice flavor to the buns and it looks shiny n tempting..
along with coconut you can also try adding some chopped roasted nuts...ideas are more..be creative and Enjoy your home made sweet buns :)
