Mung Bean Dumplings In Yoghurt Sauce / PachaPayir Urandai Mor Kuzhambu


          Today's Recipe is Mor Kuzhambu with PachaPayir/Mung bean Urandai. Mung Bean Urandai really suits well with Mor Kuzhambu. This is my style of Mor Kuzhambu with Mung bean dumplings and i just loved  it with hot rice and pickle.  Mung bean dumplings are so healthy n nutritious than the regular tuvar/chana dal dumplings. love mor kuzhambu a lot n with this mung bean dumpling tasted so good n my kids too liked this kuzhmabu n the mung bean dumplings a lot. Ingredients
For Mung Bean Dumplings
  1. Mung Bean / Green Gram    1/2 cup
  2. Fennel seeds    1/2 tsp
  3. Dry Red Chillies    4 no.s
  4. Garlic    1 small clove
  5. Onion    1/2 medium(finely chopped)
  6. Cilantro    1 tsp(finely chopped)
  7. Salt     to taste
  8. Ginger    1 tsp(finely chopped)
Method
  • Soak Mung Beans for at least 4-5 hours or overnight.
  • Then add the soaked ming beans in a blender along with fennel,dry red chilli,garlic n salt ...just sprinkle little water and grind it to a coarse paste.
  • After that transfer the ground mung bean paste to abowl and then add finely chopped onion,ginger n cilantro , mix everything well and make about 12 small lemon size balls
  • Now grease the idly plates and keep the dumpling on tha idly plate/moulds and steam the mung bean dumplings for about 12-15 minutes.
  • Once done, remove from the steamer,allow to cool and transfer the steamed mung bean dumplings to a bowl and keep closed until use.
For Mor Kuzhambu
Ingredients
  1. Thick Buttermilk    1 and 1/4 cup
  2. Onion   1/2 medium(finely chopped)
  3. Tomato    1/2 (chopped)
  4. Turmeric powder    1/4 tsp
  5. Salt   to taste
  6. Oil    1/2 tsp
To Wet Grind
  1. Coconut     3-4  tbsp(shredded)
  2. cumin seeds     1/2 tsp
  3. Coriander seeds    1 tsp
  4. Ginger     1/2" piece
  5. Rice    1 tsp(soaked in water for 10 minutes)
  6. Chana dal    1 tsp(soaked in water for 10 minutes)
To Temper
  1. Oil/coconut oil      1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds    1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds   1/4 tsp
  4. Dry Red Chili     3 no.s whole
  5. Curry leaves    1 sprig
  6. Hing    1/4 tsp
Method
  • Grind all the ingredients under "to wet grind" along with little water to a smooth paste and keep aside until use.
  • Heat 1/2 tsp oil, then add onion and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  • Then add tomato and saute till turns soft and then add the ground paste stir for few seconds and add1/2 cup water and turmeric powder.
  • Then bring the mixture to boil for sometime and then add butter milk and stir the mixture gently and cook the kuzhambu in medium heat for another 2 minutes.
  • After that add the steamed mung dal dumplings and cook for another 2-3 minutes and turn off the stove.
  • Now heat oil in a tempering pan and add the tempering ingredients one by one and allow to splutter then add it to the Mor Kuzhambu.
  • That's it .Mung Bean Dumplings in Yoghurt sauce is ready to serve.

Notes:
For Original taste, use little sour butter milk or beaten yoghurt/curd.
Addition of tomato onion is optinal, you skip that process also.
Instead of mung bean dumpling , you can also use Paruppu Urandai or vegs like okra, ash gourd etc.

  2. I love urundai morkulambu Sangee. But the lot in the house do not so I sort of never make it except for the plain one which all love. I miss it so much. When you come and settle here may be I can enjoy at ur place or better send me a parcel da.

  6. Thats so nice:) I have not heard of urundai in mor kozhambu, only had paruppurundai kozhambu that amma often makes! I will try this sometime, I'm sure to love it, given that I like paruppu in any form and shape!
