Curried Chickpeas Masala Dosa

Today also we are going to see a another Main course entree with Chickpeas/Channa/Garbanzo beans. For this i made, Masala Dosa with curried chickpeas/chickpeas curry. I love dosa with stuffing a lot, i have posted a few variety of masala dosa recipes. Click Here for the recipes. This curried chickpeas recipe was slightly adapted from Thaifood.about.com. For this masala dosa i added few finely chopped onions,cilantro n drops of lemon juice. It tasted so yummy with refreshing flavors. I have tried a similar one with my Tomato Masala Dosa. This curried chickpeas masala dosa is very nutritious and filling...No need for special sidedish but it tasted yummy with Onion Tomato Cilantro Chutney n Sambar. First time i made this recipe with chutney n sambar but on that i couldn't able to click neatly, so again next day i made this curry but with store bought dosa batter...and also didn't get time to make chutney n sambar...on that day i was in hurry n also kids were at home...lots of confusion, so totally forgot to take Curried Chickpeas separately n clicked some closeup shots with dosa alone. If kids are at home, then i can't do any of my work properly...two naughtly boys will be troubling me lot. okk will move onto the recipe...


Ingredients
  1. Dosa Batter   as needed
  2. Chickpeas    1 cup (canned or freshly cooked)
  3. Onion    1 medium(finely chopped)
  4. Ginger garlic paste   1-2 tsp
  5. Tomato   1/2 cup (finely chopped)
  6. Coconut milk    2-3 tbsp
  7. Kashmiri Red chilli powder    2 tsp
  8. Cumin Powder    1/2 tsp
  9. Garam Masala Powder   1/4 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder   a pinch
  11. Cilantro   2-3 tbsp(finely chopped)
  12. Salt    to taste
  13. Oil    1-2 tsp
  14. Cumin seeds   1/4 tsp
For Topping
  • Red Onion  1/4cup(finely chopped)
  • Cilantro    3 tbsp(finely chopped)
  • Lemon juice   1/2 tsp
  • Combine onion,cilantro n lemon juice n keep aside until use.
 Method
  • Heat oil in a kadai/pan, add cumin seeds n wait till splutter.
  • Then add onions and saute till it turns translucent and add ginger garlic paste n saute until raw smell leaves.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes(carrots, if using) and saute till it turns soft n  mushy.
  • After that add kashmiri chilli,cumin n garam masala powder, stir fry for 1-2 minute.
  • Now add coconut milk n 2 tbsp water and bring to boil.
  • Once it starts boiling add chopped cilantro and cook unitl the curry thicken.
  • That's it...Curried chickpeas/Chickpeas curry is ready .
  • To make Curried chickpeas masala dosa
  • Heat a tawa/griddle, pour a ladle ful of batter and spread in circular motion..make it thin crepes, as thin as possible.
  • Drizzle oil around the dosa n Wait for 2 minutes to cook dosa, then take 2 spoonful of curried chickpeas in the center, sprinkle onion-cilantro-lime mixture, fold the dosa n serve hot.
  • That's it...Curried Chickpeas Masala dosa ready. Enjoy with Coconut chutney / Sambar or as such.
 Notes:
I used dry chickpeas, so soaked it overnight, then pressure cooked before use.
In the step wise pic, i added few finely chopped carrots along with tomatoes but i forgot to add it on second time, so in the final pic carrots missing...you can also add carrots n other vegs to make it even more healthy n tasty.
With the above mentioned quantity you can make around 7 curried chickpeas masala dosa.
Adding lemony cilantro- onion is optional but it gives nice flavor n taste to the dosa.
You can even have this curried chicpeas with chapathi, n enjoy it as chapathi rolls!
