ReplyDeleteWhat esxactly is this Sundal ?? I have seen so many recipes on blogs for this.. Is it just the usual Stir -Fry ? Or is it complusory to add coconut into it, otherwise it does not retain its name ??
ReplyDeleteThe pics ar eGorgeous btw :)
Yes, Sundal is nothing but a simple stir fry, adding coconut is completely optional but it sure gives nice flavor n taste to the sundal...i have other sundal recipes-without coconut, if u r interested check that too :) Thanks dear!!
Deletehey, was just reading this conversation.. sangee, is it correct to say sundals are things made for navarathri?? i love the clicks.. they are soooo inviting. this is one of my fav sundal
DeleteRoshni, Yup Sundals are made on Navarathri days- Patchanam...as we lived in Agraharam for more than 10 yrs i remember daily(all nine days) we used to go to all maami's house(6 neighbors) for Navarathri Golu n Patchanam :) feeling nostalgic !!
DeleteYes, the usage of coconut is optional, but the main ingredient has to be from the pulse/legume family. It can be made with chanas, chana dals, cow chicpeas, dried green peas, groundnuts ..the list is quite long :)
Deleteeven i remember my childhood days... navarathri meant going to all the neighbours houses for all 9 days for sundals. it was always a guessing game which mami will make which one.. Now i try and do some part of it. Keep a kutti Golu and make sundals, but invite everyone only on the weekend. do you do golu?
