Another Easy and quick Diwali snack, Ribbon Pakoda / O'ttu Pakoda. We call it as O'ttu Pakoda or Oattu Pakoda and this is must in our Diwali snack list. I love my Mom's pakoda more than the store bought ones. She makes it spicy and also with the hint of garlic. But this time i didn't tried with garlic and made it as plain mild spicy pakodas. This is my Mom's version of Ribbon Pakoda and made it with her help, i turned on my skype video and made this as per her instructions :) It come out perfectly and got good appreciation too. Ok now to the recipe...
Ingredients
I used chili paste but mine didn't grind well so the skin of chili got blocked in while pressing and i couldn't get a perfect shaped ribbon pakodas for some batches.
So if using freshly ground paste, use a fine smooth paste of chili and garlic.
Instead of butter can use hot oil also.
Ingredients
- Rice Flour 3 cups (i used store bought rice flour only)
- Gram flour / Kadala Maavu 3 /4 cup
- Butter 2 tbsp
- Chili powder 1 and 1/2 tsp
- Cumin Powder 1/2 tsp
- Hing 1/4 tsp
- Sesame Seeds 1 tbsp(optional)
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- Sift rice flour and gram flour and keep aside, melt butter in microwave for 30-45 seconds.
- Now in a mixing bowl, add sifted flour, salt, chili powder( i used chili paste), cumin powder, hing and sesame seeds and mix everything well.
- Now add melted butter and mix well with the flour mixture.
- Then add water little by little and knead it to a non sticky pliable dough.
- And divide the dough in to 6-7 big balls and keep covered with a damp cloth.
- Now heat oil for deep frying, while it get heat for frying, grease murukku press with few drops of oil and plate it with pakoda plate/achu(refer pic)
- When oil gets hot, directly squeeze in to the hot oil in circular motion but not over fill, fill dough based on the pan/kadai size n the amount of oil u use.
- After a minute or bubble reduces turn other side and cook till the bubbles completely ceases and the sshh sound stops.
- These pakodas cooks very fast than the murukku, once done remove from the hot oil and drain it in paper towel.
- After cooling completely transfer it to storage container or its ready to serve with a cup of chai/coffee.
