Wisconsin is a winter wonderland, it's snowing/ Windy for the past 18 hours n going to be the same next 3 days. its so beautiful to watch the snow fall and also the weather is not too cold, its 30 F or above only. But becoz of heavy wind Schools were closed today...I was so happy to hear this message early morning so that I can sleep for some more time. Then only realized that two kids will be at home. Oh..no..H am going to manage them as I planned to bake (savory bake) today. All my plans were spoiled, since if they are at home means I can't do any work except I can bake a cake or cookies which they love more n help me in such cases. Yes, they help me n obey all my words n somehow I manage to finish my work with them. But in case of savory bake or regular cooking there will be lots of interruption you can't do anything properly. I know this is more common n every blogger mommy took it a challenge n succeed for their blog baby! But most of the time our Kids will win the game, right?! Today also they won the battle n I dropped the baking idea.
Now coming to the recipe, curry leaves Chutney powder / Podi. This Podi is more common in my Grandma's house n she make idly Podi this way with black urad dal n curry leaves. But I totally forget the term "Curry Leaves" after coming here for two reason, one we couldn't find it all the time n the second main reason it's prize, $1.89 for 2 sprigs or less...so I stopped buying curry leaves n very rarely buy it n used to add only 1 or 2 leaves in my Rasam n Sambar. Whenever I saw curry leaves related recipes in others' blog I yearn for it.
Luckily I find curry leaves in one of the Indian Grocery store for 99c n also little more quantity 5-6 sprigs n leaves also very fresh n flavorful. I was so happy to see such fresh curry leaves n decided to make "Curry Leaves" recipes n this Podi is first in the line. So simple n same as idly Milagu Podi but with the domination of curry leaves. Curry leaves has more healthy n medicinal properties n it's good to include in your daily diet. And this Podi is one such easy way to include in your kids' meal. I think most of the kids love Podi n idly rt?! So this is one of the best way to stuff them. This Podi is for idly/dosa /chapathi/paniyaram only and not a combo for plain rice. For rice we make it with roasted gram dal will share that later. Now off to the recipe...

Dry roast all the ingredients in medium heat or else it will burn soon n won't be roasted properly.
Fine roasted dal only give nice taste n flavor to the Podi.
As soon as u finish roasting remove the pan from stove top n also transfer the content to a plate/paper or else due to the heat dal will turn black n burnt.
After grinding taste the Podi to check salt if it is less then add little more n run for few seconds. If u feel its spicy no worries when u mix it with oil/ghee (while serving) it tastes perfectly.

- Fresh Curry leaves 1 cup( tightly packed) I used 2.5 packets
- Urad dal/Ulutham Paruppu 1/2cup( with or without skin )
- Channa dal/ kadala paruppu 1/4 cup
- Dry Red chilli 8-10 no.s
- Hing 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil 1/2tsp
- Wash curry leaves then dry it completely or wipe with paper towel.
- Heat a pan dry roast curry leaves for 2-3 minutes or until it turn crisp n flavor comes. Do this in a medium heat.
- After that transfer the leaves to a plate n keep aside.
- Now to the same pan add oil, heat it then add urad dal, channa dal n dry red chili and roast everything in medium flame until the dal turns golden brown n flavor comes.
- Last add hing mix it n remove from the stove n transfer it to a plate n allow to cool.
- After cooling, first blend curry leaves n dry red chilli to coarse mixture then add dal, enough salt n grind it to fine coarse powder.
- Then spread this Podi on a paper n cool for a while then store it in an air tight container.
- Serve with hot idly/dosa/paniyaram.
