Tofu Tikka Masala / Vegetarian Tikka Masala

One of my friend requested me to share a easy curry recipes using Tofu. To her request few weeks back i made this very popular n our family favorite Tikka Masala using Tofu - Tofu Tikka Masala. This Tikka Masala recipe is slightly adapted from vahrehvah.com. I recently posted the Tofu Tikka recipe which is served as an appetizer and the same can be added to a creamy and spicy gravy which is served as a side dish with any Indian flat breads n mild pulao.

Ingredients
  1. Tofu Tikka    prepared from one packet Extra Firm Tofu
  2. Onion      1 no. (finely chopped)
  3. Tomato puree   3/4 cup(or puree of 2 fresh tomato)
  4. All purpose flour/maida   1 tsp
  5. Ginger Garlic paste   2 tsp
  6. Turmeric Powder    a generous pinch
  7. Cumin seeds/Jeera     1/2 tsp
  8. Chilli powder    1/2 tsp
  9. Coriander powder    1tsp
  10. Cumin powder   1/2 tsp
  11. Garam masala   1/2 tsp
  12. Kasoori Methi/Dried Methi leaves    1/2 tsp or less
  13. Salt   as needed
  14. Milk/Cream       1/2 cup( i used 2% milk)
  15. Oil   1 tbsp

Method
  • Prepare Tofu Tikka Marination as per the recipe.
  • Heat oil in a non stick kadai, add cumin seeds allow to splutter.
  • Add chopped onions ,sprinkle some salt and fry till golden brown.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell leaves.
  • and add All purpose flour/maida keep stirring evenly for 2 minutes followed by tomato puree and allow to boil for 2 minutes and add all the dry powders and keep stirring till it become thick paste.
  • Then add enough water and salt, mix well .
  • This should be thin and cook covered let it boil for sometime.
  • Meanwhile heat a tawa and toast the marinated Tofu ,bell pepper, onion and tomato lightly and keep ready.
  • And then add the toasted items and kasoori methi/dried methi leaves to the boiling masala.

  • Stir well and simmer for another 2 minutes and lastly add 1/2 cup milk or cream and simmer for another 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame.
  • That's it Creamy & delicious Tofu Tikka Masala ready, garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot with Naan or rotis.

Notes:
With the same recipe instead of tofu u can also use Paneer / Paneer Tikka Masala.
Adding milk or cream is optional but sure it gives rich taste n flavor.
The gravy thickens upon cooling so make it little thin, so that it thickens to perfect creamy masala.
