Oats Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai RecipePrep time : 10 Minutes | Cook Time : 15 MinutesRecipe Category : Sweets/Snack | Recipe Cuisine : IndianMakes 14 kozhukattais
Ingredients
Method
- Rolled Oats 1/4 cup
- Rice Flour 1/4 cup( i used store bought rice flour)
- Jaggery,grated or powdered 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp
- Water 1 and 1/2 cup
- Coconut, grated 2-3 tbsp
- Cardamom Powder 1/4 tsp
- Ghee or sesame oil 2 and 1/2 tsp or as needed
First take jaggery and 1.5 cup of water in a microwave safe bowl and heat it in microwave for 30 seconds and let it rest for 5-10 minutes, this will help to dissolve jaggery.
Mean while, dry roast oats in a pan in medium heat for 2 minutes and then grind it to a coarse powder and to it add rice flour and keep aside.
Now filter the dissolved jaggery water to a pan and cook it until it boils.
When the jaggery water starts boiling turn the heat to low and add the rice-oats flour and keep stirring until the mixture thickens.
When it turns like halwa texture, add cardamom powder, grated coconut(i used dried coconut) and stir well and cook until the mixture thicken further and turns to a non sticky dough.
Once done, allow the mixture to cool down for a while and when it is warm enough to handle, shape it to round balls or press it in between your palm to make pidi kozhukattai.
Then transfer the shaped kozhukattais to a greased idli plate and steam cook for 15 minutes.
Once done, allow the kozhukattais to cool completely and then transfer to serving plate.
That's it...Oats Sweet Kozhukattai ready .
Notes:
Grease hands with ghee or oil before shaping kozhukattai.
Kozhukattai will be very soft and delicate when it is hot/warm, after cooling it will be perfect.
Roasting oats helps in grinding and also you will not get that oats flour flavor.
