for evening tea time snack. If I have Chaat Chutneys in hand then I will make this Makhana Bhel for sure. There lots of variations and ingredients combo, spices used for this Bhel. I like this way and the green chutney adds lovely flavor and refreshing taste to the Bhel. For this recipe I used Masala Makhana but you can also use just roasted makhana and add other dry spices in the bhel chat along with onion, tomato, green chilli & carrots. You can also add some boiled and cut potato pieces, chopped cucumber, chopped capsicum and any vegetable of your choice. - Roasted Masala Makhana - 2 Cup
- Onion 2 Tbsp(finely chopped)
- Tomato 2 Tbsp(finely chopped)
- Green chilli 1(finely chopped)
- Carrot, shredded 2 Tbsp
- Lemon Juice 1/4 tsp or to taste
- Green Chutney 1-2 Tbsp or to taste
- Sweet Tamarind Chutney 1-2 Tbsp or to taste
- Papdi or Khakhara as needed
- Chaat Masala 1/4 tsp
- Fine Sev 1/4 cup
- Cilantro 1-2 Tbsp finely chopped
Notes:If using Roasted Masala Makhana, first prepare masala makhana as per the recipe then make bhel chaat.If using Plain roasted makhana add chilli powder, jeera powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, salt to the bhel chaat along with above mentioned other ingredients.Green Chutney is recommended for this Bhel, sweet chutney can be replaced with just honey and extra lemon juice or ketchup but green chutney adds lovely flavor and taste so don't skip it.Method
- In a mixing bowl, add roasted makhana add in finely chopped onion, green chilli, tomato, grated carrot and mix well. To it add crushed papadi or khakhara then add green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, chaat masala, lemon juice and mix everything nicely.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as you like.
- Lastly add some finely chopped cilantro and handful or fine sev.
- That's it.. Makhana Bhel is ready to serve.
